Are you open?
At our West Lafayette location, our normal daily hours are 7AM-9PM from mid-August through mid-May. In late May, June, July and early August (when Purdue students have all dispersed for the summer), we’ll shorten our hours. In late November, December, and early January (when Purdue students are home for the holidays), we'll be closed some days and/or shorten our hours. For our most up-to-date hours, please refer to the website footer, our social media, or our Google or Yelp business pages.
All locations will be closed annually for the following holidays:
Easter Sunday
Independence Day (July 4th)
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Eve + Christmas Day (December 24th + 25th)
New Year's Day (January 1st)
What is your COVID-19 response?
We care about you and care, right now, looks like extra precaution. With the real threat of COVID-19 to many in our community, we are doing everything we can to be a safe environment.
Greyhouse is open for dine in business and we continue to offer carry out. You may place your order in person, through Toast Takeout, online, or call ahead.
Can I make a reservation?
We do not take reservations for individual tables in our main dining room, but we do have a side room, called The Ristretto Room, which can be reserved for private meetings and group events.
Do you cater?
We do not offer delivered catering but do have coffee boxes and boxed breakfasts and lunches available for purchase in advance. These items will be made to order and ready for you to pick up at the time / date you select.
Are you hiring? How do I apply?
Our hiring needs fluctuate throughout the year and from one year to next. We typically have staff turnover at the end of each Purdue semester but don’t necessarily have consistent hiring times or hiring periods. You are welcome to submit an application at any time. If we aren’t currently hiring at the time when your application is received, we’ll keep it on file, and you’ll be among the first contacted when and if we do start interviewing for prospective new staff. If you’d like to submit an application, you can do so here!
Are pets allowed in your store?
We do not allow pets inside of Greyhouse. We are happy to welcome ADA certified service animals, of course, but they are the only animals allowed in the shop. You are welcome to sit with your pets at one of our outdoor tables!
Is your coffee organic? Fair-Trade? Direct Trade?
Short answer: Some. In general, we partner with very reputable coffee roasters who have been in the business for years and are leading the industry in direct trade programs, promoting sustainable agriculture and business, and building lasting relationships with farmers in coffee growing regions. It is often costly for farmers to receive certifications like “Organic” even if their farming practices already meet all the guidelines, and Fair Trade certification is sometimes less fair to farmers than direct business partnerships.
If you’d like to know more about a specific coffee and its certifications, feel free to contact us.

Can I order over the phone?
Yes, we can take orders over the phone; be sure to have your card information ready so you can pay for your order. Although, if you’re wanting to order ahead, we prefer that you do so online or by using the Toast Takeout app!
Do you take tips?
The word “tips” is an acronym for “to insure prompt service.” We don’t want our customers to feel as if they need to offer us any further incentive to provide the best service possible, but if you feel so moved to give, tips are appreciated, but never expected. Any tips we do receive are collected and split among our staff as a bonus to their normal pay.
Are you a non-profit? What does that mean?
Yes, we operate as a not-for-profit organization. The idea to serve the community came first, and the decision to use coffee as a means to that end was secondary.
We desire for our staff to create and build community so that Greyhouse feels like home. Likewise, we invest time in searching for some of the best ingredients we can find from around the world so that we can treat patrons as friends and family, confidently serving them something special and cultivated with care from start to finish. We also offer unlimited free high-speed internet in a comfortable atmosphere, encouraging the community to linger over good coffee and even better conversation.
We strive to support not-for-profits and social agencies, both locally and internationally, that are making a positive difference in people's lives. After we cover our expenses, our goals are to reinvest in better ways to serve the community and to spur on new initiatives with a similar mission.
Greyhouse isn’t simply an organization, it’s a way for us to make a difference.
What’s the deal with the army men?
When Greyhouse first opened we used to set out various random little trinkets and toys amidst the sugar packets and stir sticks in our card catalog drawers for our customers to grab as a sort of running joke! The army men have stuck around and become a sort of tradition and Greyhouse staple.
I’m gluten intolerant, can you feed me?
The short answer is yes. We do make a gluten-free crepe batter in-house using quinoa flour, so all of our crepes (except for the Meatball Rustico) can be made gluten-free. We do our very best to avoid cross-contamination when making your gluten-free crepes, but we do want to note that all of our crepes—both with and without gluten—and crepe ingredients are made and stored in the same area. While crepes are only available at our West Lafayette location, we also offer gluten-free sandwiches and quinoa bowls at both Greyhouse West Lafayette and Greyhouse Campus.
If you’re looking for a small, sweet treat, all of our macarons are gluten-free as well! And, when it comes to drink options, you have the world at your fingertips! All drinks on our menu are gluten-free.
Do you offer dairy-free milk alternatives?
Why yes, yes we do! We have soy milk, almond milk, and oat milk.
The majority of drinks on our menu can be made dairy free by substituting one of the above milk alternatives, but there are a few exceptions. All of our frappes and smoothies as well as our frozen hot chocolate contain a dairy-based powder to help bind all the blended goodness together; therefore, we are unfortunately unable to make dairy-free versions of these items. Also, our creme brûlée latte cannot be made dairy-free as it contains a dairy-laden crème anglaise custard sauce!
Do you have vegan-friendly food items?
While our drink menu is fairly vegan-friendly, unfortunately, we only offer a few vegan food items. At our West Lafayette location, we typically offer a rotating vegan gelato flavor. The Harvest Quinoa Bowl, available at both Greyhouse locations, is also vegan.
Do you offer decaf drink options?
Yup!
Any of our espresso drinks can be made using our decaf espresso option.
We also have a variety of caffeine-free teas to choose from. Any loose-leaf tea labeled “herbal” or “rooibos" is a caffeine-free option. Some of our favorites include blueberry rooibos, cinnamon plum, mystic mint, and omija berry blush!
We also offer fresh-squeezed orange juice, various fresh fruit smoothies, and hot chocolate.
Is the sorbetto dairy-free?
While our sorbetto contains less than 5% dairy, it is made and stored alongside dairy-heavy gelato. If you’re just trying to cut back on dairy or want a sweet, frozen treat without the fat, sorbetto is your new best friend! For those who are lactose intolerant, however, we cannot guarantee that our sorbetto is a safe option for you.
Can I buy a whole cake?
We do not have a whole cake price point option. You are welcome to purchase multiple individual pieces, and if a whole cake’s worth of pieces are available in our dessert case, you could purchase them all if you really wanted to. We cannot pull a whole cake out of the freezer for you to purchase in bulk and we cannot guarantee a full cake's worth of slices will be available for purchase at any given time.
What does the Toast Takeout App do?
The Toast Takeout App allows you to skip the line. Order and pay on the mobile app, and we’ll have everything ready and waiting upon your arrival. You can even pick the time you’d like to pick up your order.
You can also place a catering order for coffee boxes or boxed breakfasts and lunches through the Greyhouse Catering Location on the Toast Takeout App.
